Episode 24: Modern Slots

Rightly called One Armed Bandits!

Page Last Updated: April 1, 2006

Introduction

Slot Machines, commonly known as one-arm bandits, were originally created as amusement for the spouses of gamblers. As the machines advanced and the payouts increased, these machines became more and more popular. Now in most casino's, slot machines outnumber table games by a large margin. Why? They make more money for the casino then table games do. Payouts on most slot machines are far worse than that of most table games. Why do people play these games? They are easy to play (you simply put your money in the machine and pull the handle) and offer the potential of big winnings. The fact that the machines take in far more money then they dish back out seems to be an ignored point by most slots players.
